2013 - 14

Welcome to our 2013 - 2014 21st Century Program Page!  Here we will share our current projects and how things are going!  We are so excited to be continuing with the Project/Problem Based Learning Method!  Check out some of our projects below:
 
September 1st - 27th: 
Water Conservation!  First and second graders at our Badcock site participated in an 8-week "Water Conservation" Project.  Through this project they were able to experiment and discover the properties of water and watersheds.  Members created 3D models to create the perfect area for clean water!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Engineering Adventures!  Third, fourth and fifth graders at our Badcock site participated in an 8-week "Engineering Adventures" Project.  Through this project members explored how bubbles behaved and investigated the properties of materials they can use to create different kinds of bubble wands.  Members were able to engineer their own bubbles wands!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Trash to Treasure! Kindergarten and first graders at our Badcock site participated in a 4-week "Trash to Treasure" Project.  Members learned about different recyclable items and worked together to discover new ways to use recycled materials.  Members were able to build projects using at least 50% recycled materials!
 
From a Seed to a Garden!  Kindergarten through second graders at our Musso site participated in a 4-week "From a seed to a Garden" Project.  Members took a close look inside seeds to discover the beginning of a plant.  Members discovered the necessary elements to grow a plant and by the end of the project had seedlings sprouting!
 
The Great Garden Detective Adventure!  Members from our Musso and Schowe site participated in a 4-week project called "The Great Garden Detective Adventure."  Members learned how important items grown in a garden can be to our health while learning how to grow fruits and vegetables.  Members began the first steps to growing a wonderful garden for the community!
 
Reptile Habitat!  Members from our Schowe site participated in a 4-week project on Reptiles Habitats.  Members were exposed to numerous types of reptiles and learned what it takes to build a good habitat for a lizard.
 
September 29th - October 25th:

A Newspaper Project: It's News to Me! Kindergarten and first graders at our Badcock site participated in a 4-week newspaper project called "It's News to Me."  Members learned about the many news resources available in this 21st Century world.  They were given the challenge to develop, write, create and publish their own newspaper to share with their classmates and staff.

October 27th - November 22nd:
Going on a Journey!  Members from our Schowe site participated in a 4-week project where they were able to create their own adventure.  Through this adventure the members learned about the details it takes to go on a journey such as getting a passport, planning out the trip, the cost that goes into a trip, all while learning about the geography and culture of the place they wanted to visit.
 

Chef's Academy!  Members from our Schowe, and Musso site participated in a 4-week project to build on the garden knowledge they have been gaining.  Members added to the garden knowledge with knowledge of how the food gets from the farm to their table!  Members learned what it takes to prepare the raw items into delicious and healthy meals they can help their families prepare. 

 
Who "ART" you!  Members from our Musso site participated in a 4-week project to use art to better understand themselves and how to express themselves.  Members gained a greater understanding of the history of different types of art and mediums while learning the fundamentals of colors and patterns.  Members created a self expression art show with all the new art items they each created.
